Lightweight TT podium sees McGee climb to career high

A sensational Bennetts Lightweight Race result for Derek McGee this afternoon left the Mullingar man gazing down on fans from 2nd place on the podium.

Having stunned the field by leading early on at Glen Helen, McGee kept the pace up and in the end was only beaten by a highly motivated Michael Dunlop. Leaving Bray Hill 15th on the road meant an agonizing wait for positional changes in the race for supporters. When race leader Ivan Lintin retired, Derek lead again until Dunlop responded with another record Lightweight lap time.

With the scheduled stop at the end of lap 2, the McGee machine fought back with an immaculate pit stop from his crew and left gasoline alley with a 1.5s lead over Dunlop. Dunlop dropped the hammer and again advanced.
Leaving Ramsey for the last time with a huge margin between 2nd and 3rd Derek rode a sensible race across the mountain and finished the race behind current form TT rider Dunlop. The IEG\KMR Ryan Farquhar built 650 behaved impeccably over the 4 lap race leaving Derek extremely relaxed when interviewed after the race.

Next up for McGee will be the Senior TT race on Friday afternoon where we hope his fine run of form will continue.
