While all eyes were on Derek Sheils and Joe Loughlin to
secure the Man of the Meeting award, Derek McGee knew a decent result in the Grand
Final wouldn’t do his chances any harm either. Finishing 2nd was
enough in the end and so it was, a repeat of 2015, that Derek would pick up the
accolade.
Three 2nd places in the Open, the Grand Final, the
125 and a 4th in the Supersport race secured the award for Derek whose
consistency is playing a pivotal role in his 2017 campaign. In particular, the
Supetwins and 125GP race provided solid points and may make all the difference
come the end of the season.
Of course, all 4 bikes are running sweetly from the MSS
built ZX10r to the Noel Doyne R6, leaving everything technically reliable for Derek and
the team steered by Roddy Hayes at the minute. With this in mind, Armoy and the
build up to the Ulster GP couldn’t come quick enough and more premium results
are sure to be earned from their combined efforts.
