Caolán Irwin had
a sensational result at the Snetterton 200 meeting on the Oasis bar Yamaha R6
this weekend in the Thundersport GB championship.
Having a bike slightly down on
top speed compared to the field of over 35 Supersport riders wasn’t enough to
deter the Donegal native as he promptly stuck his machine firmly in the middle
of the 3rd row, qualifying a magnificent 8th on the grid.
However, the best was still to
come as Caolán bolted in
Race 6 cutting through the field as the lights went out. By the end of lap 1Irwin
was in a remarkable 2nd position. The following 6 laps remained
unchanged until the last lap when Irwin spotted a gap and made a move that
stuck, staying on top to take the win!
Race 7 was a 14 lap affair where
again Caolán got off the
line well and into 3rd place by the end of lap 1. A battle ensued
over the course of the next 10\11 laps where places in 3rd, 4th
5th were constantly swapped. However, a last lap manoeuvre again saw
Irwin jump from 5th to 3rd where he finished, topping off
an already memorable weekend.
