Glenn Irwin was in the spotlight last night as he stormed passed an experienced field to place himself 3rd on the grid for tomorrows 50th Macau GP on the Be Wiser Paul Bird Ducati Panigale.
While planning to learn the track first, the Carrickfergus based BSB rider pushed on towards the latter end of the combined session to come home ahead of some regular Macau entrants such as Gary Johnson, Stuart Easton and even last years winner Peter Hickman.
Other riders of Irish interest also placed themselves in contention for top finishes with fellow debutante Derek Sheils qualifying an excellent 13th on the Cookstown Burrows Engineering GSXR1000.
Steve Heneghan claimed 16th on the Reactive Parts Yamaha R1M, one place ahead of Tag Racing's Brian McCormack on the Honda FireBlade.
Irish National Champion 'Micko' Sweeney is also on the grid with a credible 25th on the Martin Jones Racing BMW S1000r as is Davy Morgan on the Magic Bullet Racing Honda FireBlade.
