Monarch Of Mondello 27th & 28th August 2016

Monarch of Mondello

It was the Dublin University Club in 1970 that first started the Monarch of Mondello title races with a trophy then donated by the Monarch showband. The crowned winners over the years are some of the most famous riders ever to race at the Co.Kildare circuit.

Riders such as Michael Laverty, Joey Dunlop, Conor McGinn, Con Law, Austin Kinsella, Ronan Sherry, Ian Switzer and Mark Farmer are among them, right up to Limerick’s Mike Meskell. The Monarch races were not run for many years but in 2010 it was decided to reintroduce the Monarch of Mondello titleMike Meskell, the last winner of the Monarch kindly agreed to donate a brand new trophy. Marshall Neill was the first “new” winner with Jack Kennedy winning in 2011 and Lee Johnston in 2012. Unfortunately therewas no race in 2013 & 2014.  Brian McCormack was a worthy winner in 2015.

The Monarch of Mondello will be the second Superbike race on Sunday 28thAugust.

With the winner collecting €500 and €300 for second and €200 for third the race will attract top riders from Ireland

The awards for all of the races today have been sponsored. Fingal are extremely grateful and ask that you support the people who support us.

Let’s hope we have no rain over the weekend. I know the racing will be close and exciting.

If anybody wants to get closer to the action then enquire at the tower about joining the Marshalls club, if you want to get involved in running events then join the club.
