Name: Eoghan Delaney
Hometown: Santry Dublin 9
First motorbike memory:
Heading to Skerries Road races on the back of my dad’s Honda
cb1 400 in 1998 aged 4
2016 racing class:
This Season is a big step up and change of scenery for me
running the Delaney Racing zx10 backed by Ronan Pentony Motorcycles and Spratt
Logistics in the Thundersport GP1 Elite series in England. I decided to miss the first round of the
Thundersport calendar to get some testing done at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown
on-board the new machine which paid off massively getting loads of track time
and a good insight into what the zx10 is like ahead of Donington Park on the 26th
of March. The plan is to get in 5/6 rounds of the 9 round championship as well
as 2 or 3 rounds of the Adelaide masters series if possible. My goal this year
is to try and run in and around the top 10 mark in any race which I compete in
in the Thundersport calendar and to try and compete for top 5 and podium finishes
at some of the Masters rounds. This being only my 4th full season of
racing I still have a lot to learn but look forward to the challenge which lies
ahead. However none of this would have been made possible if it wasn’t for my
Mam and Dad who have backed me in everything I do along with my sister and my
girlfriend. Ronan Pentony of Ronan Pentony Motorcycles who has played a massive
role in my racing career from day one and has decided to come with me to
England to help me out as much as he can. Sam and Paddy Spratt from Spratt
Logistics have also been behind me from the beginning backing me and giving me
there full support which is greatly appreciated. I have been working hard over
the winter with my personal sponsors at xlr8fitness trying to get in shape
along with work in Power tool Repair Service trying to save as much as
possible. PTRS have been very supportive in time off and helping me out
throughout the years with my racing. I hope to learn more over in England and
try improve my riding every time I go out. I would like to thank all of the
above along with other family and friends who support me.
Favourite track: Favourite
Track to race so far is Bishopscourt but I would love to race Misano in San
Marino.
Best result: 1st
in the SuperSport cup series in 2014
Ambition or goal: I think everyone’s
answer to an ambition or goal in any sport is to be the best but I would love
to be an Irish Superbike champion at some point in my career. Last year was I
missed out on 2nd place in the Superbike cup championship by a point
after missing 5 races.
Advice for new competitors:
Don’t worry about what others say or do around you, Concentrate on your own
racing and the results will come in time.
Motorcycle hero: Martin
Finnegan #45
MotoGP v WSBK: in my opinion
BSB is better than the two but if I was to make a call on MotoGP vs WSBK it
would be MotoGP because them lads are on a different level of lean and
machinery.
Valentino or Casey: Valentino
all day long. If the question was Valentino or Casey’s Missus the answer might
be different!
Money no object motorcycle:
If money wasn’t an issue I would love a crack on an M1 Yamaha or Kenny Roberts
tz750. Big fan of the two smokers.
All the best Eoghan!
