Meet the Riders - Frank Doherty

Posted by   on

Name: Frank Doherty

Hometown: Killarney

First motorbike memory: I must admit I took a late interest in bikes, road racing grabbed my attention. The TT in particular. Started riding just over 3 years ago.

2016 racing class: Supersport cup.

Favourite track: Mondello (so far). Would love a crack on some of the UK tracks.

Best result: 3rd overall B race. 1st SS cup rider in the opening round of masters 2016.

Ambition or goal: Have fun, enjoy my racing and banter with the other lads. A SS cup podium would be nice before the year is out. At the end of the year I'll see where I'm at financially and if personal life allows you might see me in 2017.

Advice for new competitors: Relax and listen to advice from the experienced guys. I've learned suspension setup and grip is vital above all else.

Motorcycle hero: Joey and Michael Dunlop

MotoGP v WSBK: Road racing :)

Valentino or Casey: May the better man win but I'd love to see Stoner back

Money no object motorcycle: William Dunlops R6

My plan for the year is to contest all rounds of the masters Superbike championship. After an encouraging start at round 1 we will hope to build and come back stronger at round 2 in Bishopscourt.
If the budget allows I'm hoping to also contest the WCMCC series which run hillclimbs and one drag race.

I'd like to thank my sponsors Tricel, Proworx, O'Neills power equipment and especially JOG tuning for his continued support. The father for the loan of the van and the great team of friends that help me out. Especially Kaja and Neil. Having an understanding girlfriend also helps so I'd have to mention my girlfriend Maria :)

My bike is a 2007 Yamaha R6 I bought with the engine gone and got it going over the winter. It did a 3 day test in Cartagena and so far has been perfect and I hope we can keep it that way. Hopefully later in the season we might be mixing it with the big boys.

Thanks to Andy for making contact and the opportunity to introduce myself
