Enkalon Wash Out!!

Enkalon Wash Out.

Words and pics - Derek Wilson

The 40th running of the Enkalon Trophy Races fell victim to the Irish weather last Saturday as heavy rain and high winds led to the meeting being abandoned. Clerk of the course Mark Sanlon was left with no option but to bring proceedings to a halt at Bishopscourt after the rain that began to fall over night persisted well into the morning making conditions to dangerous to race.

The Enkalon Trophy will now be contested at the David Wood Memorial meeting in September.

There was some racing however, with each class getting a 6 lap sprint race Friday.  David Haire was the winner of the Superbike race after a close fought battle with pole sitter Nico Mawhinney.  Mawhinney set the fastest lap on his Team Polaris Kawasaki by NE but was down on power and could not get past the Ducati of Haire. The pair were hardly a bike length apart throughout the race and crossed the line with only 0.145secs between them. Nikki Coates, Kingsbury Packaging Kawasaki was third just over 5 secs behind Mahinney with Robert English bringing his IFS Yamaha home in 4th.

In the Supersport race Jason Lynn led off the line leading William Dunlop on the CD-IC Racing Yamaha for the opening laps, Dunlop however was having none of it took to the front on lap 3 opening a slight gap on the chasing pack, Lynn on his Walter Bell Suzuki was eventually relegated to 3rd place when Nikki Coates, Kingsbury Packaging Kawasaki moved into second, Dunlop took the flag 2.09 secs in front of the chasing four of Coates, Lynn, Elkin and Kennedy who were separated by less than a second across the line.
